It seems as if Chiefs fans are intent on carrying on in their overwhelming - and misguided - belief that Chiefs GM Carl Peterson is hell bent on saving every penny possible by waiting until the very last minute to sign the Chiefs’ high round draft picks this season.

Well, I’m here to let you in on a little secret…

Every team does it’s best to sign players before their respective training camp starts up. They also try really hard to get those players signed for a salary number that benefits the team in the long run. It’s a good business practice last I checked and considering the Chiefs - along with the other 31 teams in the NFL - are first and foremost a business, one shouldn’t be too surprised to see them drive as hard a bargain as they can when they’re coming to an agreement with a potential employee.

Despite that seemingly simple explanation, the masses in Chiefs Nation are ready to crucify Peterson for doing his job. That’s always been something that irked the hell out of me as an intelligent fan, because it’s pretty much common sense. And while I know people on the East and West Coast love to label us all as a bunch of in-bred idiots, I know full well that the average intelligent quotient of a fan in Chiefs Nation is well above that of many other fans of other teams - yes, I’m talking to you Oakland Raiders fan.

So stop with all the hate and start using your brain my fellow fanatics. The Chiefs will sign all of their draftees in due time. And, we’ll all be thanking Peterson a few years down the line when we have the cash available to sign the missing piece to our long lost Super Bowl run.
