The draft came to close earlier today, and on first glance, I think the Chiefs have shed their old rep as draft failures, and have embraced a new role of draft superstars instead. The team dominated the board on the first day, garnering all kinds of talent without giving up anything in value. All three of their selections should come to KC and start right from day 1, which is something the Chiefs have rarely enjoyed over the past 20 years.
Then the Chiefs followed up their superb 1st day with another 4 rounds of talent today, grabbing outstanding players regardless of need, and further solidifying their status as the best draft class this year. They could have easily reached somewhat and taken players at specific positions like the drafts run by Herm’s predecessor, Dick Vermiel, but instead they chose to stick to their draft board, and select the best players available, which is always a recipe for success in my mind.
I’ll be posting a detailed analysis of each pick over the next few days, but for now, here’s a quick recap in case you missed out on this weekend’s action. Enjoy!!
